Les 49 meilleures choses à faire et attractions à Asheville (2024)

Shojis Japanese-inspired spa is located in Asheville and offers guests a serene retreat tucked away in the mountains. The spa has three lodging options: a loft, a lodge, and a studio. Each of these offers guests indoor and outdoor hot tubs as well as sauna and cold plunge. The spa also has private outdoor spas for each type of lodging, as well as bamboo walls that offer privacy to each hot tub.

Amazing lodge and spa services. We stayed at the House of Earth and it was clean with all the amenities. The shower was perfect and the view was gorgeous. We had a hot tub soak and couples massage. Both were so relaxing. The massage was one of the best I’ve had. I have been here before for a girls weekend and this weekend to celebrate a wedding anniversary. Loved each time I have been to Shoji!

We enjoyed our time at Shoji very much, and found it very relaxing. I personally did not do the massage chair (wife loved it) - because I have bad experiences with mechanical massages. The spa was my favorite part. Secluded, quiet, and peaceful. The garden and landscaping was unbelievable. All of the staff was very friendly and masked up, which was appreciated. It was not nearly as expensive as you might think for a truly unique experience. I would return here regularly if I lived closer. Thank you!

We stayed in the House of Wind in mid-June. Room was perfectly appointed with just enjoy supplies to be comfy - tea, oatmeal, the spa’s signature scented soap, shampoo, etc. Views from the room were beautiful, and it was exceptionally quiet at night. Staff were absolutely lovely, and went above and beyond! Only note is that the stairs to the room were steep and may be difficult for some to climb. Just an FYI, it did not impact our experience, and we would return in a heartbeat. Easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and about 15 minutes by car from downtown Asheville. Thanks, Shoji!

Beautiful atmosphere! The front desk people were very friendly, although I wish they would’ve showed us how to use the showers and maybe take each group in privately, but that may be just the way they do things. Enjoyed the sauna, a cold shower, and soaking in the tub. Our massage therapists were fantastic!! I’ve had a lot of massages in my life.. and just amazing! I wish we could’ve stayed on the property! I highly recommend this place for a pampering getaway!

Bummer of an experience. I recently took my partner here for his birthday evening. I'd chosen the 2 Guest 90 min option, which advertises "Enjoy your own private Tub House situated in the woods." for a price tag of $245. For me, this cost is a splurge. Unfortunately, our tub house was directly adjacent to the office door, and the only "privacy" was the paper thin wall between our tub and the common area. It was really disappointing that something advertised as a private tub house situated in the woods was neither of those things. It detracted from the privacy, romance, and overall experience that we were expecting, which was especially disappointing since it was his birthday. Even a quiet conversation wasn't actually private, as all sound travels very easily in that location. Such a let down and definitely not what I'd intended or paid for. I will say that the tub was nice and hot, the sunset view through the woods is pretty, it's a cool spot in general, and the staff are extremely kind and welcoming and provided complimentary Bday hot chocolate. I just wish I'd been aware that the experience I was purchasing wasn't actually private, as I would have chosen differently.

The lodge has the best view! Everything was so clean! Really like the shower but the water gets cold after a while! Service was great and I did enjoy the private hot tub a lot! All in all, I would definitely recommend this place to everyone! The best birthday experience I have ever had for sure!

We had the absolute BEST experience here. Very relaxing and peaceful. Check in was smooth and easy, they explained the process thoroughly so we knew what to expect with each appointment. We started off with the tub soak which was AMAZING! Great views, nice and private. Then we went and had massages by Elisabeth and Charmaine Kirsch, and they were one of the best massages we have EVER had!!! It was so peaceful. Our last stop was the infrared sauna which just topped it all off. It was such an amazing experience that was extremely relaxing and peaceful. The staff is wonderful, and the facility is very well maintained. Will definitely be returning!

Alissa — Google review

The staff are so nice and seemed to love what they do. The private outdoor hot tub had me worried since it was about 40 degrees and windy out. Let me tell you it was actually perfect! So warm that i would halfway get out at times. This was followed by the best massage of my life. My masseuse got kinks out of my back that I didn't even know I had. I will be coming back.

Val R — Google review

Madeleine and Courtney were great and we loved the view from our soak at sunset! Highly recommend both of them for a massage. The experience was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our time. However, it is way too expensive for what it is. We were amazed that literally nothing was “included.” If you are paying $386 before you get there and that doesn’t even include the 20% gratuity, how can that not include at least one alcoholic beverage (Or bubbly) and a light snack? We paid $40 extra for 2 drinks and cashews! Are you kidding? And then the aromatherapy add on is $24 each? We both elected for it assuming there was no “aroma” if not selected only to find out after that you just got to choose a different aroma from the traditional coconut oil. This is absurd and should absolutely be included. We’d love to come back for the experience but there is no way we can afford to pay $550 for a hot tub and massage again. And lastly, please lose the requirement for masks inside. If your customer is paying high dollar for a massage, he/she should be completely relaxed and enjoy the experience the entire time, including when face up. No one is wearing masks anymore… you are not doing anyone good by requiring it other than making a statement that your ownership is liberal and 1/2 of the country would rather not support it. I guarantee there are many staff members who would prefer not to wear a mask but are afraid to speak up…

They have healing , magical hands here ! Had a wonderful massage therapist named Steve. I came in with back pain left without it. It's day 2 and still feel great. Husband had an incredible experience! Staff is unbelievably kind, courteous and professional. Hot tub private bath was perfect for a cold winter morning and what a view of the mountains ! Extremely pricey so won't be able to afford another spa day like this until next year. But it is definitely worth it. Note: don't bother with the massage chairs or chea pods as they call it- waste of money and was not relaxing. Go get a massage by the licensed and experienced masseuse and masseur.

We loved everything about Shoji: the location, the facilities, the staff. It was allpitch perfect. What a wonderful experience. As a matter of fact, it might be the best thing about Asheville and the only thing we would return for. I saw a couple less-than-stellar reviews, and it made me hesitate. So glad I ignored those. What a wonderful place. And what a wonderful day.

Maureen M — Google review

It was absolutely AMAZING! I went on a pretty hot day so I was a little worried but getting in and out of the tub was so comforting and soothing and luckily it was breezy and beautiful. Will definitely be back. As a local, I’m glad to have such a beautiful hidden treasure so close by. Highly recommend.

Shawna S — Google review

Loved our full day at the spa. The soaking tubs were the perfect way to begin before the 60 min massage. Eric and Becca did an amazing job of getting the knots out of tights muscles. The infrared heating pads and quiet time were the perfect transition to the infrared tree top sauna and lounge area. The weather was amazing! The final Himalayan salt scrub session under the trees was the best finale and left us super soft and truly relaxed. Highly recommend!

Amy C — Google review

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Shoji. The outdoor temp was perfect at 46 degrees for our amazing hot tub experience. The surroundings are beautiful and our host, Kendall guided us through the experience in an extremely personable, pleasant, and professional manner. We'll definitely visit again and highly recommend Shoji.

DireStraits_51 — Google review

We can not say enough great things about our experience! My fiance and I came the morning of our wedding and Kendall and the rest of the team went above and beyond to make our morning special. The spa is quiet and relaxing and 100% worth experiencing. Thank you guys for being amazing!

BRITTANY B — Google review

I personally don't believe the pricing reflects the type of experience that is advertised. Booked a private tub for one hour for two guests for a total of $180. Our reserved space was far from private. Other guests and staff members were able to see straight into our reserved area if shades were not down. Having to keep the shades down and not being able to enjoy the view took away from the whole purpose of having an outdoor spa experience. The tubs we're a bit underwhelming. Regular hotel hot tubs with mold and mildew growing along the edges where the tub met the deck. Every 15 minutes we had to step out of the tub to manually turn the jets back on. Very hard to relax when you know you're only 15 minutes from your next chore lol.

Aliyah C — Google review

I was very much looking forward to our trip to Shoji, I really thought it was going to be an amazing trip but I was disappointed. One of their tubs is up connected to the main facility while the rest are down below in the woods. We had the misfortune of getting that one tub above. It did not feel private at all, there were people constantly walking back and forth to the tubs beneath, we had no big beautiful view of the woods because it was basically completely closed off BECAUSE there was no privacy. The fact that I was paying the same amount as everyone else in the other tubs but I basically had a hot tub outside with a weird window to the path below was upsetting. The facilities in general are nice but nothing special. We also did the self scrub which was very pleasant, I do recommend doing that after the soak. One of the biggest things that really turned me off to this was the pricing. I was aware of the 20% service fee and I didn't have a problem with it going into it because I thought maybe the staff really did a lot for you along the way, checked on you, brought drinks, etc. I don't know, something. While the staff was very kind and helpful I do NOT understand what this service fee was for. They checked us in, took us to our tub, left us alone for the whole time, took us to our self scrub shower, and then checked us out. What service exactly am I paying for??? The soak itself was already expensive, which I don't have a problem paying for necessarily but they really need to add some sort of value for those prices. I would not recommend this experience for the cost, there are a lot more enjoyable things to do at this price point. The only reason I'm not giving it a 1 star rating is because the facilities were clean and the staff were very kind and helpful.

Caroline B — Google review

I booked "Michi (The Path)" package. They do not have lockers to place your personal belongings, so you will be carrying it with you. You are supplied a towel, sandals and a robe with a tote bag.For the salt hydrotherapy tub soak I highly recommend bringing a bottle of water to sip on!! I went in February, even though it was ~ 40 degrees I still had a great time and remained warm!I was skeptical of the massage chair ... but it was absolutely amazing!! I was completely relaxed and dozed off.The staff was very welcoming & pleasant - highly recommend!!!For this package I paid $198 + $39.6 (20% gratuity fee)

Adria C — Google review

Overall our experience was great. The staff was welcoming and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Me and my fiance booked one of the packages that included the massage chairs. While the chairs are adjustable, it's definitely best suited for someone around 5 ft 7 in tall. Overall we feel that the chairs were not very effective at massaging. We plan to go back, but next time we'll book a hand massage instead of the chair.

Kelsie B — Google review

I had a wonderful spa experience at Shoji! I did the Nagusamu package and it was well worth the money; excellent value! The hot tub was very clean, as was the whole facility. I enjoyed having a glass of wine tub side. The massage was excellent and I highly recommend Alex. I haven't had a male masseuse before and was a bit apprehensive, but Alex put all my concerns to rest and delivered one of the best massages I've ever had. I also enjoyed the sauna at the end of my visit. I will definitely be returning!

Leisl S — Google review

Such a wonderful experience! Beautiful setting with Japanese bathhouse style high up on the mountain side. Service was very kind and we left fully relaxed and relieved. We learned of this place through word-of-mouth during our vacation, and it was well worth splurging on such a unique and luxurious spa day!

SpinnyC17 — Google review

Let me say this was the best spa I have ever attended. The atmosphere and ambiance was amazing. Nestled in the mountains is just an added bonus! My hubby and I will definitely be back. The staff and services were wonderful. We enjoyed every bit of it.

LaTisha L — Google review

I absolutely LOVED soji. It was relaxing and rejuvenating, the ambience was unique and inviting. It was an experience I’ll remember forever. Amanda was my massage therapist today and made the experience even better than it already was. I’ve had quite a few massages and she is the best I’ve gone to thus far. I will definitely go back.

We had a wonderful time at Shoji. It was tranquil and beautiful. The staff treat you like royalty. Facilities are clean and there are thoughtful touches all throughout, including the (slightly scary and steep) way up the hill.I was a little nervous based on some of the reviews. Some comments about the locker room aren’t wrong. It’s very small but I came early to my appointment and had no issues. Although, the shower was too fancy and confusing to use at first! I had a lovely experience and I’m sure you will too!

Shelby M — Google review

To say that Shoji Spa is incredible would be an understatement. Every treatment was amazing and the staff made sure of it. They were so kind and attentive. The treatment rooms were well appointed, sanitized and beyond relaxing. The outdoor treatments were magical and private with beautiful views of the forest atop its secluded mountain.

Stayed for our one year anniversary. I’ve had my eyes on visiting for a while and I am so glad I finally booked it. The House of Earth was serene with a great view, especially seeing the city lights at night. The staff was welcoming and very informative and helpful! Location was perfect for the atmosphere, tucked up in the mountains away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but close enough to make it easy to grab a bottle of wine and come back to relax for the night. Spa services were divine!

Amanda S — Google review

Beautiful spa. The private baths had nice views, but a somewhat busy road in the distance. The outdoor shower was not as private as expected, but definitely a fun experience. I didn't personally care for the meditation room. The sauna was awesome. Overall, a unique, albeit slightly overpriced, experience.

Celeste M — Google review

My partner & I had a lovely time. We did the 60 mins private hot tub & then the exfoliation treatment. The staff were so friendly and kind. There are definitely some improvements to be made, but they didn't have anything to do with the staff or services. It would really be beneficial to have lockers rather than having to lug your belongings around in a tote bag. Also, given that you'll be showering, there should be a hairdryer, qtips, etc, offered. Also, there is very little privacy in the shower/ changing area.

Annie R — Google review

I had a wonderful day at Shoji Spa! The hot tub soak was extremely relaxing. My massage was one of the best I've ever had! All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. GPS took me straight there with no issues. I will be back!

Catherine S — Google review

Beautiful location. We did the salt tub soak and 60 min massage. The tubs were very clean and enjoyable. We loved how private they were and had a beautiful view. The massage was wonderful. Our masseuse were so personable and did a great job. Felt so relaxed at the end. The dry sauna and cold showers were also nice amenities we were able to enjoy before we left. Would definitely return should we visit Asheville again.

Didn't meet expectationsMy husband and I came and stayed in the house of wind and booked massages and soaking time in the tub. The property is in a residential neighborhood up steep and windy roads. The room was unique and very nice. The room was upstairs from part of the spa where you could hear the spa music downstairs, so surely folks in the spa could hear us upstairs as well, we were thankful for the noise machine provided in the room to help it feel less awkward. The room was clean and well stocked, but some little details were missed like previous guests Thai food left in the fridge. Our massages and tub time were the next day, when we arrived at the desk for this we were sent back to the waiting area to complete more paperwork. The soak in the completely private tub was in a private tub as advertised, but there was a walking trail just beyond it and below that more tubs and showers, so while we had the space to ourselves, people could see into the area and were close enough to speak to us as they walked by which didn't make it feel as private as we were led to believe. We could also clearly hear folks in the tub next door. Next was the massages, we went back to the waiting area, the therapists came and got us and told us we would need to use quiet voices because the massages are in a shared space, they took us upstairs and we walked into a large open room with office cubical-style partitions sectioning off countless massage areas in this shared space. The massages themselves were not great, when giving feedback during the massage the therapist got defensive, we both left feeling disappointed and like we had over paid for the experience. Overall this seemed like they were just missing the mark. Pretty area with a nice idea for a spa, this could have been a special place, but it just seems crammed/overcrowded for the space they have and over priced for what they are offering.

Came here as a gift to my partner for his birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The products used were such great quality, the facilities were really nice and clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful (shoutout to Cori and Amanda). My only critique would be having a waiting area for people that are in between services, separated from those who were just checking in and getting ready to start. I think being in the same waiting area pulled us out of the experience while we waited for our next service. Other than that, I would definitely come back, they were awesome!

Seamone J — Google review

Ignore all the people complaining, they don't know what they are talking about! We had an absolutely wonderful time at Shoji! Our soak was amazing, super relaxing. The facility was gorgeous and clean. Staff was very friendly and welcoming! I have zero complaints and will be back!As for the people who don't understand how this is "Japanese", please do some research. Yes, it's a tiny bit Americanized because, well, we are in America. But the architecture of the building, decor, and feel is similar to that of a Japanese bath house.

We had a wonderful experience today at Shoji. From start to finish it was great. Customer service at the front desk was so friendly and so thorough. They explain everything, and don’t rush you. We did the hydrotherapy tub and a 90 min massage. The tub was peaceful, private, and the tea add on was great. The massages were tailored to our needs and I felt so relaxed the entire time.Shoji calls itself “unpretentious” which is so true. It’s earthy, rustic, natural, but beautiful and peaceful. I was nervous after reading negative reviews about the space, but after going, I realized that people will complain about anything! The locker rooms and showers were no big deal. Carrying a tote is no big deal. Maybe if you’re boujee or a Karen this isn’t the place for you. But you can expect a peaceful environment, kind and friendly service, and enjoyable treatments.I also want to thank shoji for accommodating when I asked them if a newly running special could be applied to me. They immediately said yes, and I appreciated it so much!

Great atmosphere but a tiny bit run down inside. Did not detract from my experience. The drive up was a little intimidating. Massage was perfect, I had Erik (I think that was his name) and I got exactly what I asked for. The outdoor soak tub was nice, our package included a 60 minute soak which was too long for hot tub time. The staff was perfect.

Kristen S — Google review

This was a day I never thought I needed. The service we received was above & beyond my expectations. We came on a Wednesday morning and had the whole place to ourselves. It was so peaceful & serene. The atmosphere is amazing i loved the outdoor shower & body scrub!! To be outdoors is new to me but I really felt at home with nature! I am so refreshed, renewed, and ready to take on the world! 🌎 🙌🏾 Thank you Soji

The vibe is wonderful, very relaxing and beautiful. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We did a soak in the hydro tubs with beautiful views and great privacy. We also did a couple's massage, and the masseuses were amazing and so kind. Not cheap by any means but would highly recommend this place!

Best spa experience I’ve ever had. Amazing mineral hot bath with a gorgeous view. Actual deep tissue massage that released so much of my tension. Extremely friendly staff who are always there to help. Will definitely make this my go to for special occasions.

Alex H — Google review

Just the spa (not the hotel):Massage: 5/5 absolutely outstandingEverything else: 1/5, stressful, and overpricedThere was nothing "spa" about this experience. No privacy, anywhere (nowhere private to change, the shower curtains are somewhat see-through and flimsy, the soaking tubs are visible from the walkways). The massage room itself is a big communal room separated by room dividers. For a place that's supposed to be relaxing, it was quite stress-inducing.The amenities are limited and underwhelming. The "soaking tub" is a regular hot tub reeking of chlorine. One of the two cold showers didn't work. Have to walk outside (in the cold, in the rain) between all of it. No place to just rest and relax: the "waiting room" is tiny and busy and doesn't have comfy chairs, and the amenities outside are all either really hot (hot tub, sauna), or really cold (cold shower) - there's nowhere to just relax! All the drinks are extremely overpriced ($24 for a pot of tea??) and there weren't many options. No black or green tea - just their herbal mix, and if you're allergic to 1 of the 8 ingredients, too bad, can't have tea at all.The entire experience was confusing - from where to change in private, to how to turn on the shower, to where to put your stuff (there are no lockers), to where to go.Honestly, for this price, we've gotten much better experiences elsewhere. Our two massage therapists through were phenomenal. Lee gave me one of the best massages I've ever had.

Yekaterina B — Google review

I did the hada rejuvenation package at Shoji. The hot tubs were relaxing, but not as private as I’d like. I loved the scrub. Amanda gave me an INCREDIBLE massage. That was my favorite part. I left there pain free and completely relaxed.

Spent an afternoon at Shoji for my birthday. My wife and I did the Buddha’s Best Package and I must to tell you it’s worth the price of admission. The soak in the salt tub on the side of the mountain was so peaceful and relaxing and the massage therapists we had did an incredible job. To finish up we had an hour in the Savasana Retreat and it was amazing, what a wonderful way to wrap up being pampered for the day. Some reviews on here mention the road leading to the spa is a bit treacherous and parking is slim but we had no issues. It’s true that it’s on top of a mountain and you traverse a windy road but if you take your time it’s a non issue. You may have to park in overflow parking but who cares. I would t worry about it. Just don’t drive your RV up there and you’ll be fine.

Mike S — Google review

This spa is in a beautiful location in the woods. It seemed clean and the massage with Amanda was incredible. The soaking tubs were nice. The scrub was not worth the price. You are definitely paying for the location. I don’t understand the Japanese aspect. There seemed to be decorations and names on the menu but nothing else.

Jessica G — Google review

This spa was amazing! My husband and I went for the hot tub & scrub after. Don’t listen to the reviews claiming there is “scum” in the tubs- they are truly mineral water, so the minerals leave a residue/wear on the metal of the tub over time. The staff were super friendly & we felt so relaxed during our visit. The tea was a really nice add on as well! Do note that the changing rooms/showers are not private, which is typical for a Japanese style spa and what we expected. It was super easy to find as long as you follow the GPS and signs. We definitely plan to come back!

Dayna S — Google review

Perfect spa day with the girls! I booked the Baby Buddha package for our party of four and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We began in the private soak which was a fun time to relax and chat. Then separated into pairs for the shower scrub and met back up for the Savasana retreat. We loved every minute of this package and found both the staff and facility to be very welcoming. Will be returning with my husband in the near future!*Only suggestion - I know space is limited, but having some sort of locker or area to store belongings would be nice so we don't have to carry totes to every station.

Selena M — Google review

Lovely Japanese style spa in the mountains for a weekend couples retreat. The place was tranquil and relaxing. The massage was one of the top 3 I have ever had anywhere in the world. My practitioner was Ashley.I was excited about the package and was a bit disappointed. I was expecting more add on services for the price. We started with a soak in a private hot tub and then went to a 90 minute massage. The last service was basically a heated blanket while laying on a vibrating surface. For the price, I would have expected more hands on services.Overall it was a lovely experience that you should try once. Not really a place I would revisit, but a unique and relaxing setting.

Laura B — Google review

1000/10!!! I was so excited to check this place out and it did not disappoint one bit!! Lovely staff and the check-in process was simple and accommodating. The place is BEAUTIFUL!!! I have so many questions--how did they build this? How did they get the materials up the mountain? How do their utilities work? Lol but overall I just cannot rave how beautifully serene this place is--from the walk ways to the salt pool. Wish I lived closer so that I can go all the time!!

Absolutely amazing! We felt rejuvenated after doing the couples package & the massage chair had me so relaxed I caught myself snoring lol. We will definitely be back to try the hot tub spa.

This was one of the most enjoyable spa visits I’ve ever experienced. The hot tub is nestled In the woods with a beautiful view. Access to cold shower. Amanda gave the best massage EVER! highly recommend shoji ❤️

This was an amazing experience. It was relaxing and great view. We stayed at the house of earth and I highly recommend it! Great places to eat and the massages were amazing. The other best part was the staff. Without them, this experience would have been this amazing.

We had an amazing 3 night stay at the House of Wind! The room was cozy and romantic with a huge, open shower. The spa services were excellent and the staff were all very friendly and attentive. Special shout out to Adam! I would highly recommend Shoji for a nice relaxing getaway!

Probably the best spa you're gonna get around Asheville without taking out a second mortgage. I opted for a two hour soak -- this was basically a private outdoor room with access to a spacious jetstream hot tub. Hot fragrant tea and cold water was included with my 150 dollar package, and I had access to a sauna. The staff was very responsive and helpful, and overall provided a very relaxing experience. Really the only downside I can think of isn't even an issue with Shoji itself but the mountain you have to drive up to get there -- the roads are narrow and winding. But even that is offset by Shoji generously setting up signs in the area to guide you to the lodge safely. Definitely will come here again.

Dean L — Google review

Very cool, interesting spa! My husband and I had a couples massage here. Both massage therapists were great. Amanda was mine, she was so nice and communicative and the massage was excellent. My husband had a great experience too but I can’t remember her name(sorry).

Christina W — Google review

I give Shoji Spa 5 stars for delivering a unique and relaxing experience. If you're seeking an American fully private and lavish spa, this may not be the right choice. However, we expected a blend of Japanese and American culture, and Shoji delivered. The quaint structural spa space created a sense of community and respect among guests, similar to Japanese culture. The staff was informative, considerate, and accommodating. The tub soak and Swedish massages were excellent. The therapists were fantastic and attentive to our needs. My boyfriend, who has been playing hockey since childhood, was in desperate need of releasing those years of built up tension. His therapist, Michael, exceeded expectations even providing helpful tips for follow-up treatment. My therapist, Lindsay, consistently checked in and helped me relax, allowing me to release the stress of managing my medical needs. It was a much-needed and overdue experience for us both and we couldn’t have been more satisfied with our time at Shoji. The only suggestion I have is to have more signs along the drive up, but it was easy to navigate overall, I just like the extra reassurance that I’m doing the right thing!
