What is Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE? It's Nintendo and Atlus's new collaboration using Intelligent System's Fire Emblem series and Atlus's RPG expertise. This originally stemmed from Yamagami Hitoshi's idea of a modern version of Fire Emblem where a Pegasus Knight flying down on Shibuya 109, initially known as Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem. The game eventually morphed into what it is today, an Atlus x Fire Emblem collaboration with beautiful artwork by toi8, animated cutscenes by the animation studios, Studio Anima and Studio 4°C, image songs by avex group, and SMT inspired RPG gameplay by Atlus. The Fire Emblem characters, known in game as Mirage, are primarily from Marth's first game, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, and the recent Fire Emblem Awakening, redesigned in a demonlike fashion to fit the game aesthetic by Hideo Minaba, formerly from Square Enix. Although it is no longer Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, there are still a lot of Shin Megami Tensei elements and cameos in the game such as spells, demon names, and call backs to Shin Megami Tensei games and spinoffs. The team and scenario writer behind this game are the same as the ones behind Devil Survivor, Shin Megami Tensei IV, Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne, Radiant Historia, and more! The game takes all those aspects, and combines them with the Japanese and Western Entertainment industries. Despite the positive and colorful aesthetic, you can expect great gameplay and bright and uplifting as well as dark themes as evident by the lyrics in many of the songs and the team's track record! It's like Macross, but with Demons instead of Robots!

Idolasphere
A portmanteau of the latin word idola and sphere. It is the realm that the Mirage, both enemy and allied, reside in parallel to our world. The Idolasphere is where the Dungeons in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE will be taking place. Each Dungeon in this realm has its own theme based on its parallels to the real world. When in the Idolasphere, enemies are marked by a symbol encounter.

Performa
A fictional form of energy in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE that grows or weakens based upon a person's self-expression and creativity. In order to bolster one's Performa, one would take part in the performing arts: singing, dancing, acting, drawing, anything that pushes an individual's expressive freedom. In Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Performa is the energy that attracts Mirages, both good and evil. Enemy Mirage prey and feed off of human Performa in the real world.

Mirage
They are the reincarnation of the heroes and villains of the Fire Emblem series. They currently reside within the Idolasphere and their appearances have changed as a result! Mirage thrive off of human Performa. Humans with a high affinity for Performa are able to be Mirage Masters and partner with allied Mirage from the idolasphere by sharing their Performa with them. Fortuna Entertainment is recruiting Mirage Masters in order to fight off the enemy Mirage threat. But is there another group standing in the way, enemy Mirage Masters? Enemy Mirage are like Demons and Shadows from the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series. They live to drain humans of Performa and their ultimate goal is to possess and invade our world. Below you can see some of the enemy Mirage that appear before our protagonists in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE.

Carnage Form
Normally Mirage Masters in the Idolasphere fight in their Idol Form outfits, but their abilities extend past that. Carnage Form is a status that Mirage Masters can take on by using their Performa and merging with their Mirage. A Mirage Master's appearance changes drastically, taking attributes from their Mirage Partner while their Mirage transforms into a weapon and tools for their master to use in combat. Mirage Masters can improve their Mirage and Carnage affinity in the Bloom Palace through Carnage Unity. In the Characters section, you can see each Mirage Master's current Carnage Form.

Costumes
Outside of your Carnage Form, you also have plenty of costumes to choose from for when you are in battle. You can buy new costumes and accessories at Anzu Store Tokyo and through sidestories. Costumes can also be obtain through DLC. Swimsuits are OPTIONAL, they're in the game but they aren't necessary or required. Other costumes used in performances and in battle in this game are wide in variety so you'll find a costume you like. Please don't fuss about this one detail. There are dozens of outfits for everyone to choose for, much more than your average Tales game, so there should be something for anyone.

Battle

The game is a turn based RPG where you control 3 party members with your respective Mirage to fight and defeat enemy Mirage! Each battle takes place in the Idolasphere inside an Arena, similar to a grand stage when performing Lives and shows. The gameplay is very similar to other Atlus games and takes cues from both Fire Emblem and Atlus other games. There are 4 different weapon elements (Sword, Lance, Axe, and Bow), 6 different magic elements (Agi, Bufu, Zio, Zan, Holy, Dark), recovery skills such as Diarama, and support skills such as Rakukaja from the Shin Megami Tensei series appear in this game. Critical Hits also return from the Fire Emblem series. You can also obtain items for use from the convenience store, Hee Haw Mart and after Battle. Like in Atlus RPGs and Fire Emblem, you want to be exploiting weaknesses for maximum damage and minimum consequences most of the time.

Alongside your bread and butter Atlus RPG Battle System, you have a set of Extra Skills unique to this game as well. Your skills and attacks cost EP, expression points, and SP, special points, so mind your meter when it is your turn. During battle party members and your mirage may talk to you during battle.

Extra Skills

Session Attacks

When you exploit an enemy's weaknesses, your party will able to able to use their Session Attack, a follow up attack. You get a Session Combo Meter during battle to show how many weakness chains you build up. You can add more through learning the necessary session skill. The more chains you make, the stronger the session assaults. These Session Attack also have a nice touch where whenever your Mirage Master does their Session Attack, their personal signature appears to show off the Entertainment Industry motif.

Special Performance

An extra skill that your Mirage can perform by spending SP. It like an ultimate move, a last effort attack that takes advantage of the bond that a Mirage and Mirage Master share. This attack can ignore resistances as well as create Session Attack links that follow up after your Special Performance. Effects vary between character and skill but you can be sure that this is a very strong move. Be wary of your SP count when using this. A nice touch that the developers of the game put in is that whenever your Mirage does their Special Performance, your Mirage Master's signature can be seen during the move to show off the bond between Mirage and Master and how heavily tied in the Entertainment Industry motif is.

Ad-Lib Performance

A type of Extra Skill that happens on occasion when you select a command in the battle menu. When using a skill like Assault Type or Diarama, there is a possibility that your party member perform an Ad-Lib Performance, an enhanced version of the command that you chose. Some of these attacks are based off of commercials and jobs that your Mirage Masters do at Fortuna Entertainment. Above is Tsubasa's outfit when she does a gravure CM for the popular soft drink, Amrita Orange. There are different costumes and types of Ad-Lib Performance, not just a swimsuit. Their effects vary so explore all the possibilities you have!

Duo Arts

A powerful extra skill that occurs during Session Attacks. These attacks are done between two party members that have a special relationship with each other, thus have a specific criteria to use it. Once the criteria is met, during a session assault you will see an icon telling you to press L next to two of your members. When you press the button during the Session Attack, the pair will perform a Duo Art and attack together to do major damage. Duo Arts can be done through the sidestories in the Topic section and they show off the special relationship that the members of Fortuna Entertainment share with one another. These attacks take the form of scenarios between both characters depending on the kind of relationship both characters share.

Bloom Palace

Info Trailer
A different realm within the Idolasphere, governed by the overseer, Tiki. Tiki and the Bloom Palace acts as a base of support similar to the Cathedral of Shadows and Velvet Room in Atlus other games. This is one of your bases to improve your skills and Mirage affinity. You will be going here often. Here you can fuse materials and use Performa to upgrade your affinity. There are three main things you can do here, Carnage Unity, Radiant Unity, and Class Change.

Carnage Unity

Here you are able to go and fuse materials to create a weapon with higher Coordinate Power for your Mirage. You new weapons can give new skills and alter your stats as well as your resistances and weaknesses so choose accordingly.

Radiant Unity

You can spend your Performa that you obtain in the Idolasphere to upgrade your Radiant Skills that can grant various effects for your Mirage Master. You can get buffs/debuffs, stats increases, and even new Session Attacks when you exploit enemy weaknesses. More skills become available as you raise your Stage Rank. Some of your most important skills are obtained through Radiant Unity.

Class Change

By selecting this option, you're able to use Master Proof and perform a Class change for your Mirage. Each Mirage has at least 2 other classes they may upgrade and change into. You have access to new skills and abilities for when you change your class. I won't be posting all the Class Changes, but I can assure you they are really cool designs!

Topic and Sidestories

Since there is no Off-TV Play in this game, the Gamepad serves as a means of communication similar to LINE where you can contact your colleagues. You are also able to access things regarding the main story as well as in game side stories so that you can have a smooth progression throughout Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. Character status and a game map is also accessible through Topic and the Gamepad.

DLC will added to the game post launch. Current known DLC consist of the Fashion Show costumes, Collab Costumes, and a Support Quest DLC that will add in things that will make grinding in the game easier, like skills, money, and stat buffs.

The game takes place in present day Tokyo where you follow the lives of the entertainers in Fortuna Entertainment. Each character had their own reasons for being recruited into Fortuna Entertainment with their own goals to be at the very top of a very competitive industry, some more enthusiastic than others. Outside of their goals as idols and entertainers, the main characters of Fortuna Entertainment are recruited and live a second life as Mirage Masters as the Idolasphere threatens to corrupt our world. Evil Mirage feed off of the Performa, the expressive energy, of human beings and suck them dry leaving their bodies depressed, detached, and lifeless. Those who have had their Performa drained are susceptible to becoming possessed by evil Mirage and used as vessels to invade Tokyo. Our Mirage Masters goal is to ward off enemy Mirage and protect the world they love most, the Entertainment world. However are all Mirage Masters benevolent? Five years before the present day, at the Kokeraotoshi Theatre Grand Opening, a mysterious tragedy occurred which resulted in the disappearance of several idols into the Idolasphere, one being Tsubasa's sister Ayaha. Alive or dead, we don't know. Many of our Mirage Masters are connected in some way to the Kokeraotoshi Incident and the Idolasphere.
